In Shopify, you can choose to include tax in the product price or exclude it. easyPoints does not take the affect of the product price, but instead checks the total checkout amount to calculate the amount of points for customer reception.
This article will showcase the tax settings and the point rates, and the amount of points that will be displayed.
You can also set point rewards against shipping from the shipping points settings, but this article refers to the order itself, and will not include shipping.
Store tax settings
Access the taxes and duties section in your Shopify settings from the Shopify management page, to modify store tax settings.
When "Include tax in prices" is active, the displayed price includes tax on the product or the cart page. Points are allocated based on this displayed price and the point rule.
*Note: The examples below use Japanese Yen, but apply to any currency.
For example,
If the point rule is set at ￥100 = 1 point
Product price: ￥1000 (tax included)
Displayed price: ￥1000 (tax included)
Checkout: ￥1000
Points allocated: 10 points
If tax is not included in the prices, it will be added at checkout.
easyPoints considers the total price with tax included to display the amount of points planned to be allocated.
Example: if the rule is, ￥100 = 1 point
Product price: ￥1000 (tax not included)
Displayed price: ￥1000
Checkout: ￥1100 *including Japanese tax = 10% of the price
Points allocated: 11 points
Some custom integrations can display prices with tax even if the Shopify setting is set to display prices without tax.
It is possible to set the Shopify settings to auto-display tax based on customer location. However, easyPoints relies only on the prices including the tax. Therefore, purchases made outside of Japan yield more points due to taxes.
easyPoints point rate settings
The point rate for easyPoints is based on the total price with the tax included and to allocate points without the tax, please adjust the point rule to ¥110 = 1 point (If the tax is in Japan)
As stated above, easyPoints checks the final total with the tax included and if the rule is set to ¥110 = 1 point, it would mean that the point rule would be the equivalent to ¥100 = 1 point in price displays without tax.
Example: if the point rule is ¥110 = 1 point
Product price: ¥1000
Displayed price: ¥1000
Actual price: ¥1100
Points allocated: 10 points
